What Makes Me Different?

Here is my main goal as a music teacher: To teach my students how to hear music and apply it; rather than simply teach shortcuts to playing in a band as soon as possible. I aim to teach techniques that will encourage longevity as a musician, which will allow for the focus to remain on the soul of the music as opposed to simply a formula.

I am not at all against bringing to my set to learn. However, I prefer to teach you on your set as it is YOUR instrument; your playing field. I want you to be able to directly apply the instruction, allowing you to feel more comfortable on your own set....not to mention working on your kit to improve ergonomics and placement to make way for optimal performance.

As stated before, I am a father and as such, I understand what it truly means to meet a person where they are at. Not all people learn in the same style or speed. One of my strengths is that I can find the avenue in which each individual will learn best and go at a pace that challenges without discouraging them.

What You will Learn

While taking Lessons from me, we will asses where your in your skill.

For beginners:

-Musical Notation, Timing and Rhythm

-How to ergonomically set up your drums and hold your sticks (stick control)

-Basic Rudiments

-Ear training; teaching your ears how to really listen and hear the music

For my more advanced students:

-If needed, we will refresh the beginning pointers

-the ergonomic stick control required for differing styles of music, and the history/reasons behind the holds

-Syncapation

-Learning how to really play music, not just a programmer performing a formula, but learning to BE a musician

-Sheet Music Basics

-Endurance

-Pre-performance Exercises

-Applied Experience for Optimal performance

A Little About Your Instructor

As a father to 3 wonderful little boys, I am always living with the adventure of the unpredictable. Part of the fun is recognizing that all of my children are different, and will naturally tend to learn differently. Different love languages and different learning languages. In my lessons I practically apply this same understanding to my students. I am comfortable adapting my style to just about any age or stage in life. It is truly beautiful for me to be apart of the first sounds of music a child may hears- or the inclining of a more seasoned ear to new sounds never before ventured upon.

I am an experienced musician with over 14 years behind me. These years have included marching band, jazz, touring in a punk band, recording multiple albums, to now where I am writing, composing, arranging, performing and teaching.
